Agency Buildings Currently Closed Due to COVID-19 At this point in time, the COVID-19 illness is having a significant impact on individuals, families, and businesses across the country. Preventing the spread of the Coronavirus is a top priority for everybody and will require extensive social distancing for quite some time to be effective.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has extended the "Shelter in Place" order for residents of Illinois through April 30, 2020. This means that Cornerstone' homes are staying at home with staff supervision, and get regular wellness checks. Our employees are also screened for COVID-19 symptoms before entering the homes.
Due to the seriousness of COVID-19, Cornerstone is continuing its "No Visitors" policy for all agency locations. I know this is not easy for families, but we need to limit the number of people who enter our homes to keep our residents and staff--and families--safe. Note to parents and guardians who have brought their loved one home: we are unable to allow them to return to Cornerstone until at least April 30, 2020--possibly longer depending on directives from the state. Again, this is a difficult decision to make, but the safety of all of our staff and residents is paramount.
Most of our staff are now working in group homes, showing incredible compassion and dedication at this challenging time for the individuals who count on us for support every day . Other staff members are working remotely. While face-to-face meetings are not possible, emails and phone calls are welcome if you have any questions or concerns. As this is a new procedure for us, we ask for your patience as we make adjustments and staff learn to use some new technology.
Some families have inquired as to how they may help Cornerstone's residents and staff at this time. We are extremely grateful for the generosity shown by our families. If you are crafty, enjoying sewing and are interested in making face masks for our staff and residents to use, please contact Michelle Allen via email or 815-741-7609 for more information.
As this is a fluid situation, the state may make changes to the dates for Stay at Home and day program closures. We will continue the lines of communication for any updates or changes we may make in the future. Thank you again for your support of our agency at this time.
Day Program Closure Due to COVID-19 I want to inform you of some changes that will be taking place at Cornerstone over the next few weeks as we join others in the community to meet the challenges posed by COVID-19. As you know, this is a unique and challenging time. Most of us have never lived through a situation like this, but by following the guidelines of authorities and maintaining robust health and safety standards--including "social distancing" to limit contact between people--COVID-19 will hopefully be on the decline.
With the well-being of our staff and individuals who receive services in mind, and following a directive from the State of Illinois, Cornerstone will be closing all of its day programs beginning Tuesday, March 17 and continuing through at least Wednesday, April 15.
Those individuals who live in Cornerstone group homes will continue to receive support from the agency in their own homes, and have the opportunity to participate in activities with agency staff in the home. Those who live in other provider homes or with families will be unable to attend agency programming at this time. Other arrangements will be necessary through at least April 15, 2020.
Our staff receive annual training in universal precautions--including the cleaning and disposal of materials that may harbor viruses. While it is always an imperative to keep our houses and facilities clean, we are taking extra care to ensure that all surfaces will be disinfected even more frequently.
I want to thank you for your understanding of our decision to close day programs during this unique period of time. Your cooperation will ultimately be a crucial step toward returning to normal operations as soon as possible.
