Volunteer Opportunities

at Cornerstone Services

 

Note: Most volunteer positions will be held on-site at one of five Cornerstone locations in Joliet, Ill. during regular day programming hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday).  For specific information, contact Kristi Reed, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at (815) 741-5191.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Arts and Crafts Volunteer

Prepare materials for craft projects for adults and work with consumers on craft projects. 

 

Computer Coach

Help our consumers become computer-savvy, by teaching basic PC skills.

 

Drop-in Center Helper

Assist staff with leisure time activities (arts and crafts, games, etc.) for adults with disabilities.

 

Historical Storyteller Volunteer

Entertain adults with disabilities with accounts of historical events, reminiscing of the past (i.e. how things used to be done, how foods were prepared, etc.)

 

Leisure Time Activities Helper

Lead a bingo tournament (or other game), read a story, help with money-counting skills, telling time, or other activities as needed.

 

Life Experience

Share your life knowledge with others!  A personal story, interesting job experience, slideshow of a memorable vacation . . . it's up to you!

 

Literacy Volunteers

Help adults with disabilities (most with academic levels below 4th grade) improve basic reading and math skills under the direction of an instructor.

 

Mobility Training 

Assist clients in learning to use walkers/wheelchairs/canes more effectively and safely.

 

Musical Volunteer

Share your musical talent.  Lead adults with disabilities in age-appropriate tunes.  Introduce individuals to various musical instruments.   Entertain groups with live music or conduct a sing-along.

 

Senior Day Program Assistant

Our day program for senior citizens with developmental disabilities is in need of caring individuals to share their time.

 

Sensory Stimulation 

Enjoy the sensory room while enabling the clients to relax or work on specific sense areas.

 

Special Olympics Helper 

The Cornerstone Jaguars participate in sports for every season of the year.  Helpers are welcomed for our practice sessions. One of the few evening volunteer opportunities Tue. /Thurs. 6:30-8:00 pm.
