Agency Announces New Core Values & Beliefs Statement

The Board of Directors of Cornerstone Services unveiled the agency’s new Core Values and Beliefs document, as well as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement at its recent meeting.

In many ways, these Core Values and Beliefs have been a part of Cornerstone since the beginning, but it was important that we put them into writing, so our consumers, staff, and the community as a whole know just what we stand for,” said Cornerstone president/CEO Ben Stortz.

2019 Cornerstone began to explore the many ways diversity, equity, and inclusion played a role in the lives of the employees and people who receive services at the agency. The Covid-19 pandemic temporarily brought this process to halt, but many events across the country in the summer of 2020 made it clear that this was a priority for a progressive organization that expects choice, dignity, and opportunity for all people.

Knowing that the organization’s core values and beliefs needed to be made absolutely clear, a Diversity and Communications group was formed over the summer to put them in writing, in addition to a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement. These are intended as a complement to the Mission Statement and reflect the agency’s aspirations.

In addition to the new statements, all current Cornerstone employees will receive extensive training on diversity, equity, and inclusion and it will be implemented into training for new employees.

The statements read as follows:

Mission of Cornerstone Services is to provide progressive, comprehensive services for people with disabilities, promoting choice, dignity, and the opportunity to live and work in the community.

Compassion: Demonstrate care, concern, and empathy for all.

Dignity & Respect: Treat everyone as how you would want to be treated.

Unity: High performing teams communicate and work together as one.
